Gabi, the versatile all cotton blanket that is popular all over Ethiopia. Practically loved and worn by everyone from young children to clergymen, it is considered an heirloom item. Gabi is the coziest blanket that is specially used in the cold months, whether lounging on the couch or as layer on the bed. It is made of hand spun local cotton, weaved into a large double-layer blanket by a skilled weaver using century old ‘machine’ usually with a decorative border and hand twisted fine fringes. It holds up well to machine washing and gets softer and more supple with age.

Care: Machine wash, cold water, gentle cycle. Tumble dry low. Warm iron if needed. Dry clean. For light colored/original gabi, you can use oxygen whitener for extra brightness. We recommend washing your handmade fabric less frequently.
